Keeping notes on the run

One of the challenges faced by educators is keeping track of what we have noticed about children’s learning, development and interests during our crazy busy days.  This can be particularly challenging for family day care educators, who don’t have any other educators to share their observations with, and so they are more likely to be forgotten if not recorded somewhere.

It is important to have a system in place to easily record notes on the run. Why?

  • We can refer to these notes when we’re chatting with families,
  • We might want to discuss what we’ve noticed with coordinators,
  • It might be helpful to reflect on what these jottings mean, and
  • These jottings can inform our detailed observations and program planning. NQF Standards 1.1, 1.2, 6.1 and 6.2

The good news is that EarlyWorks makes it easy to record thoughts on the run, using individual child comments.

EarlyWorks also allows families to reply to comments that are made visible to them. And, using the green Extend button, educators have the option of creating observations from these comments.
