Are you using a variety of observation styles?
The importance of using a variety of strategies to assess children’s learning is highlighted in the Early Years Learning Framework. According to the EYLF assessment of learning is an ongoing process that includes a “diverse array of methods” to capture and record the different pathways children take to achieve outcomes.
According to the Guide to the National Quality Standard, when assessors are rating services for Element 1.1.1, they may ask to sight “documentation that has been gathered in a variety of ways about children’s progress towards the learning outcomes and planning that establishes further learning goals.”
EarlyWorks’ flexible observation template means that educators can easily use a variety of observation styles, and even label their observations as being of a particular style. This labelling makes the education leader’s job much easier, as it is very clear when educators have included a variety of observation styles in their documentation.
